Spencer Robelen is a composer, singer/songwriter, violinist, and published playwright from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. His compositions include chamber, orchestral, and choral music, as well as film scores, musical theater works, and incidental music for plays. He has received commissions from organizations such as Bluedog School of Acting for Kids
and Insane Cookies.
Spencer will be receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Theory and Composition from the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, where he served as the president and vice president of the Miami Student Chapter of the Society of Composers, Inc. He studied under the tutelage of composer Dorothy Hindman and violinist Scott Flavin.
Spencer has received numerous awards for his compositions, including the Best Score Award from the STAsis Film Festival, the Composer Award from the Lovewell Institute for the Creative Arts, and three Cappie Awards for Creativity in Music Composition for the Theater. His music was selected by jury for the 2012 and 2013 Festival Miami Emerging Composers Concerts. Spencer’s music has been performed by various ensembles including PULSE, Kookaburra, the Frost Symphonic Choir, the Frost Symphony Orchestra, and
the Florida Youth Orchestra.
As a violinist, Spencer has performed with the Frost Symphony Orchestra, the Henry Mancini Orchestra, and the Miami Music Project Orchestra alongside famous musicians including Joshua Bell, Edgar Meyer, Leon Fleischer, James Judd, Kenny Loggins, Michael Feinstein, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Mark O’Connor, Terrance Blanchard, Eric Owens, Chick Corea, Bobby McFerrin, and Dave Grusin.
